This shoot holds a very special place in my heart!
This is Bodhi, 2 months fresh. He was my very first “model” EVER! I mean if you don’t count my own family.. His parents Jacinda and Curtis have another son who happens to be one of my sons hockey teammates. It was Jaci, that reached out to me one evening, well it may have been during the day, but I remember evening because I remember the moment everything changed.
I was just sitting in my art room, yes, I have a room dedicated to art. It’s my jam. OK! When I check the message, she asked me if I’d like to take some photos of Bodhi. I wasn’t sure at first because I had never taken photos for someone before and I didn’t want her to be disappointed. She assured me that it didn’t matter how they turned out, just that they had some photos of him. I agreed to do the shoot that week. I spent the next few days watching newborn photography workshops online, I spent basically every waking moment planning the shoot, because I wanted it to turn out good.
I was so nervous the morning of the shoot. I wanted everything to be perfect. When Jaci showed up and walked into my home, all of my nerves had vanished, it was like all of my worries melted away. The whole shoot went smoothly. because he was an “older newborn” we didn’t even attempt to put him in any squishy newborn poses. We just let him do his thing, and he was such a champ.
So how did this shoot change everything??
Before this shoot, I had no idea that I would want to specialize in newborns. I could not wipe the smile off of my face for days after this shoot. That’s how I knew that this was what I was meant to do.
So thank you Jaci, and thank you Bodhi… If it wasn’t for you I may have never discovered how much how love capturing images of babies!
